Rash's ?9th Birthday

There were two Birthday Balloons that were gifted to Rash on her Birthday. Apparently, one of them burst and only the one with "9" on it was left. It's anyones guess how old Rash really is - 19, 29, or perhaps just 9.

Mikaeel's Medowbrook Talent Show

Mikaeel's Summer camp ended with a talent show. It was quite fantastic with a performance of Queen's "We will Rock You".

Rizwan's Birthday

Haroon, Tehmina and Samar hosted a sumptuous BBQ for a number of folks including the standard crew from Newton (Mamoon, Zehra, Mika, Emaan and Nano), the Scottish bunch (Zain, Saneeah, Anoushay, Mira and Zamin) and Rashiqay. It was Rizwan's Birthday and he pledged a new alias: Ramone in hopes of appealing to the Spanish population.

Mika's acappella performance of Queen's "We will rock you" served as post lunch entertainment for the court.

Mikaeel's Summer Piano Recital

We had a busy Saturday: Karate in the morning and then Piano recital in the evening. We arrived early at the Steinert Hall, Boston, where the recital takes place. 5:30 pm the kids started their warm-up rounds. Mikaeel was flawless during his practice round except for almost tripping over the foot stool. His recital included:

2. Allegro - S. Suzuki
3. Christmas-Day Secrets - T. Dutton
4. Au Clair de la Lune - J. B. Lully

Mikaeel was treated to Tapas at Tapeos on Newbury Street. He insisted on Armani Cafe or Top of the Hub, but we settled for Tapeos.

Today, we also recorded Emaan's first private recital. She improvised Twinkle Twinkle, Baba Black Sheep and ABCD-EFG. One small step for Emaan, one Giant Leap for Mum & Dad's expectations.

Haroon turns 37

Haroon gets ready to cut his 37th B-day cake with Samar looking over to make sure that daddy leaves some cake for her. Best wishes to Haroon and his family for many more years of health, happiness and prosperity.

A Little bit of Travel and a Lot of Change

May has been a hectic month. Things have been fluid at work with a number of significant changes. All this, while I have been travelling between conferences. A few days in Brea, CA, a conference in Baltimore, MD and another in Orlando, FL. I did enjoy all trips.

Through all the changes, activities, stresses, trials and tribulations, I have had clarity and focus on why I am doing all this. When people commit their livelihoods and careers to you, either by deciding to work in your team as employees or through purchasing your products as customers, there is no other outcome other than success. Failure is only an option for those that have nothing to fight for. And yes, let me not forget the investors that bet on you with their money.

In a true company, there are 3 constituents that are important: 1) Customers 2) Employees 3) Investors. If one sincerely cares about their interests beyond ones personal interest, I firmly believe that a company can successfully sustain value for all 3 constituents.

Happy 40th Marriage Anniversary Morji Baba

Today is Morji and Baba's (my Mom and Dad) 40th Marriage Anniversary. I have always wondered why they choose April 1st. My dad would say that the whole thing was an April Fools joke. Well it was a great joke that has lasted for 40 years. We all wish them many more years of laughter, fun and happiness together. Morji and Baba have been a wonderful model of companionship, understanding, care and keeping each others wits alive through lively disagreement on the most mundane of things.

I know what you did last Spring

As we built our business in Europe, I had a chance to visit Rome last April. Our colleague, Philippine Reille, finally sent me a picture of the Forum Systems Team in front of Castello San Angelo, Rome.

I did get to see Pope Benedict from a hundred yards or so - very impressive & charming - at least to look at :-)

I recall being offered Authentic Italian cuisine by our gracious hosts, however, I have come to realize that I am more fond of American Italian foods that are less greasy and salty than their "authentic" Italian counterparts. I hear it gets progressively salty and greasy as one heads South.




There's nothing more fun than serendipitously walking around the streets and discovering historical artifacts and sites in Rome.

It's anything but Boring

Last Sunday, February 18, Mikaeel decided to perfect his flying kick at Samar's birthday party. On his 3rd try, he overlooked the fact that one of the helpers at the gym was still standing behind the "tackle foam." Newton's laws are indeed irrevocable, at least at the macro level: Mikaeel bounced off the foam and broke his right arm's radius and ulnar bones. He was quite the trooper. I had him hold his broken arm, walk to the car and then bear the bumpy ride to the ER.

Mika was quite the joker after the Morphine kicked in. After the X-Rays, the Orthopedic Surgeon, Bobby, & ER Doc, Michael Butler, tried anaesthesia drugs. After a couple of doses, they started looking at each other wondering why it wasn't knocking Mikaeel out. At one point, Mika shut his eyes slowly and after a few seconds, startled everyone by saying "fooled ya". After 4 doses, he was finally sedated and we were kicked out to the waiting room.

I was really impressed with the ER staff at UMass Memorial, Worcester - the waiting area was poor, but the staff was world class. I guess they get to see a lot more than the clean & sterile ERs in our neighborhood. We were back in our local ER after Mika and Tylenol with Codine didn't get along.

Emaan, my 5-year old, picked up a bug while waiting in the ER, and was throwing up 2 days later. And today, a week after Mika's accident, Emaan's virus caught up with Mika and he spend this third day in the ER after throwing up 11 times. I think we should get him a membership rewards card for ER visits.

So Grandma & Grandpa (Morji & Baba) got to see a week in the life of Mamoon, Zehra & Co. As usual, Zehra did most of the work, but I took a lot of the credit.

Nano, Abbas and Hussain were all there in full support and helped us get through the week. I hope next week is a bit better.
